I built an elegant online showcase for Silverlake Vintage Guitars, established in 1982, featuring a curated selection of vintage instruments from legendary makers like Fender, Gibson, Martin, Epiphone, Rickenbacker, Guild, Gretsch, and archtops from Larson Brothers, D’Angelico, Stromberg, and D’Acquisto. The site highlights the business's deep expertise in authentication, inspection, and guaranteeing authenticity, providing collectors and musicians with confidence in every purchase. It includes detailed inventory listings, trade-in options, and stories behind the guitars, reflecting owner Chris's unparalleled knowledge in the vintage market. The design evokes a timeless feel, blending high-quality imagery with smooth navigation to appeal to serious enthusiasts worldwide.
The Challenge
The core challenge was implementing parallax scrolling effects to create an immersive, dynamic browsing experience that mimicked the allure of handling vintage guitars, while ensuring flawless performance and smoothness across all devices—from high-end desktops to budget mobiles—without glitches, lag, or layout breaks.
The Solution
I used CSS transforms and JavaScript libraries for layered parallax animations, optimising with requestAnimationFrame for 60fps fluidity and media queries for device-specific adjustments. The site was developed mobile-first, with fallback behaviours for older browsers, ensuring the scrolling enhanced rather than hindered usability, while integrating e-commerce elements like secure inventory views and contact forms seamlessly.
